I’ve always been concerned about my hair in the winter because the air is dry and the elements are hard on it. It wasn’t until a recent heat wave that I realized the summer weather could be just as harsh. My perfect beach hair, was not looking so perfect. It was time to give my tresses a little TLC.
From dry and damaged to frizzy and over-producted hair, I’ve got the perfect home remedies for you. Best part, each recipe only requires a few simple and cheap ingredients. Let’s get to it!
For dry and damaged looking hair, inject a little moisture into it. You will need:
- 1/2 cup real mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons of honey
Combine both ingredients together and give them a good stir. It may feel a bit sticky, but I assure you it will run through your hair easily.
Use the entire contents of the bowl in your hair then cover it with plastic wrap. Let it soak in for 30 minutes before shampooing it out. Your hair will feel instantly smoother.
This hair mask is great because the mayo is full of fats that give your hair much needed moisture and the honey locks in that moisture. A perfect combination, wouldn’t you say?
Reduce the risk of an unintended fro by smoothing your hair with this awesome hair mask.
- 1 ripe avocado
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon honey
Mash everything together until it’s a nice smooth consistency. Slather it all over your hair then brush it through using a wide-tooth comb. Plastic wrap your hair for 30 minutes and then shampoo as usual. Your hair will be frizz-free and have a gorgeous shine.
Avocados are rich with healthy fats that nourish your hair. They also contain vitamin E which works to strengthen and protect your locks. The coconut oil adds moisture and again, the honey locks it in.
Sometimes frolicking in the pool and ocean can weigh you down. Your scalp and hair can become overloaded with sea salt, chlorine and of course, your daily hair products. To pump a little life back in it, all you need to do is quickly strip it; get back to the basics, if you will.
For a gentle hair stripping, you will need:
- 1 part baking soda
- 2 parts water
Mix accordingly to the length of your hair. Massage this runny paste all over your hair and let it sit for no longer than 15 minutes. Rinse it out and let your hair air dry. Your hair may be a little vulnerable for the first 24 hours post-application so avoid using hair dryers, straighteners and product.
This baking soda blend will help remove dirt, grease, chlorine and product from your hair while gently exfoliating your scalp. Your hair will be noticeably more voluminous in the days to follow.
These recipes will get you from spring to fall with gorgeous hair. Remember, tattered hair can age you as much as wrinkled skin, so treat your hair with respect. A little TLC every now and again never hurts either!
