As we enter into an era of financial change and instability, many women are starting to get budget-conscious about beauty. Drugstore makeup lines have picked up on this trend and are starting to produce better quality products for the budget-savvy makeup consumer.

There is a multitude of beauty blogs solely devoted to drugstore makeup finds; bloggers use them to show us swatches, offer samples, and give us their opinions so that we can still be excited about makeup even if we can’t afford high-end MAC products.

I have been following a group of makeup bloggers for years, and generally buy and try just as many products as they do. This year, I already have my top 5 picks and I’ve listed them below. These products have all been tested by yours truly.

CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation, $12

People swear by this foundation. It includes a primer, concealer, and foundation. It has a matte finish, which is all the rage this year. You don’t need to use much, which is a big selling point because it will last you longer than most foundations. It also has incredible staying power-it lasts through the standard workday.

Outlast Stay Fabulous will cost you about $12, which is a bit high for a drugstore foundation. However, since you won’t have to spend money on primer and concealer, it’s really a steal. It’s best for combination oily/dry skin.

Wet ‘N Wild 8-Pan Eye Shadow Palette, $5

For $5, these 8 Pan Palettes are an incredible buy. It comes with a duo angled brush and sponge, and within the eye shadows are inscriptions of where to apply each color. There are two rows of different color combinations, including shimmer and matte colors. Each column is separated by browbone, eyelid, crease, and definer.

The colors are extremely pigmented-something you don’t find often in drugstore eyeshadow. Remember, you don’t have to use the colors how they direct you to-look up some beauty tips for eyeshadow techniques and get creative.

NYX Matte Lipstick, $6

NYX isn’t available at drugstores, but they have recently scored a display at Targets around the country. Since they have received so much attention (and have even converted many MAC enthusiasts) NYX deserve to be include on this list.

I, along with many other beauty bloggers in the blogosphere, can attest to the fact that these lipsticks are the best matte lipsticks on the market right now. At a mere $6 a pop, the NYX Matte collection features a range of colors-from bright pigments to more neutral peaches and browns.

Milani Baked Blush, $7

If you’re a fan of NARS blushes, Milani is a much cheaper option and looks almost identical. If anything, Milani looks even more natural than NARS. If you’re looking for a dupe of NARS Orgasm blush, try Milani Baked Blush in Luminous.

The blushes include a subtle shimmer and boast lasting staying power. They blend easily, aren’t heavily pigmented, and glide on super smooth. It’s been my personal go-to blush for about 2 years now.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder, $6

This powder is wonderful to set your foundation and is true to its name: it keeps your face matte throughout the day. The biggest selling point of this powder is that it’s incredibly light. It won’t make your skin feel heavy and cakey, but it still provides optimal coverage.
